The following are links to sites that discuss medieval (and occasionally later) coins to some extent. Sites that merely illustrate a few medieval coins are not included. Sites marked with a "***" are highly recommended viewing either for comprehensiveness or sheer quality.

THE MEDIEVAL COINS GROUP
The best set of links and discussion about medieval coinage I've found (in English at least). I would encourage anyone with an interest in medieval coins to join the (sadly inactive of late) mailing list and contribute.

EVERYCOUNTRY
Everycountry is a large Yahoo mailing list (160+ members) maintained by collectors of coins whose goal is at least one piece from as many different issuing authorities as possible. An ever-growing checklist of coin issuing states, cities, and other minting authorities is available. Medieval and early modern coins are always welcome for discussion and the group holds a monthly online voice chat through Yahoo Messenger on the first Friday of each month.

NON-COUNTRY SPECIFIC

  • Fitzwilliam Museum's Medieval Coins Projects - Publishers of the massive Medieval European Coins book set and a huge online accessible database of coin finds in England. This is a useful resource for images of early medieval coins from throughout Europe but especially from Danish and Norse sources.
  • French and English Royal and Medieval Coins - Tom Oberhofer's ever-growing site, with coins from Venice, Germany, and the Crusades as well.
  • Jim's Medieval Coin Page - An excellent set of descriptive pages about medieval coins in a private collection, with short guides on grading medieval coins.
  • The Maskukat Collection - A well-organized display of Medieval and Mediterranean Islamic coins.
  • Medieval European Coinage - Yves Debroyer's pages on medieval coins of the Low Countries, France, and England.
